Need a little self reflection to help yourself get organized and on track for success? This book points out some steps we need to make as creative individuals to set our sights and achieve our goals. The action method, a way of organizing the todo items of daily and longterm goals, is one way to begin your leap forward. Many other aspects of the professional development and success of the creative are discussed, such as embracing the community (social networking), working within a team, and becoming comfortable with failure.
A very good source of inspiration with some humor and character. Great tips for best practices using CSS to enhance website designs. I especially enjoyed the primer on the wonderful things that can be achieved with CSS3. Now, if I could only convince everyone in the world to update their web browser on a regular basis...
I thought this was a really great book for the fledgling Actionscript non-programmer. In the past, I had read "Flash" books, which had tidbits of Actionscript and blocks of pre-assembled code that were included to perform one function or another, but I still had no clue as to why the code was written that way or what it actually did. This book, however, starts with the building blocks of the basic programming concepts such as loops, functions, arrays, etc. and then covers many of the built-in classes and objects and how to manipulate each of them. There's still a lot to learn, but with the help of this book, I understand enough to keep moving forward.
A good overview on the differences between normal creativity and extraordinary creativity and the circumstances related to each. Somewhat of a dry read.
A book about the different areas of the brain and what we humans need to do to make it run most efficiently. This was one of the easiest to finish non-fiction books I've ever read. The information about the brain's capacity to learn and the ideal conditions for retention was most interesting. I wonder if and when the educational system will ever adopt some of these techniques.
A good book to go back and re-read every now and then. Interviews sprinkled throughout the book give some good insight about different aspects of the design world.
An absolute must read for the young designer. Learn how to set type in the most legible and aesthetic fashion. Also available, The Elements of Typographic Style Applied to the Web.
